Every two years students from Ellesmere College take a performance over to our partner school Tabor Academy in Massachusetts to tour there and give our pupils the chance to experience life at an American school. This experience is then repeated when the Tabor students come here and tour their own play. For both groups of students this is an amazing experience: performing ‘on the road’ and in different venues, visiting cultural and historic sites, taking part in another school’s way of life and of course making great friends.
This year an intrepid group of Ellesmere students from Years 10 to 13 took their production of J B Priestley’s ‘An Inspector Calls’ over to Tabor. As well as the challenge of performing in a studio setting, the students learned a huge amount about American history from visiting places such as the Newport Mansions, Plimoth Plantation Settlers Museum, The New Bedford Whaling Museum and the beautiful city of Boston itself. The trip culminated in a visit to see the world-famous ‘Blue Man Group’ perform and a last night trip to a Chinese Restaurant.
