Ellesmere Remembers

Ellesmere Remembers

We organised an evening of drama, music and poetry to commemorate the ending of the First World War and the role played in it by those from College and Ellesmere itself.

Our students worked with pupils from Lakelands School to create a promenade performance which moved from the Arts Centre where the audience saw extracts from Joan Littlewood’s ‘Oh What a Lovely War’, through the College Chapel, singing hymns and songs from the period, and then on to Ante Chapel where students gave readings from the poetry of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.

There was a moving walk down main corridor which was festooned with reminders of the men and women of the College and Ellesmere itself who had sacrificed so much in the service of their country both at home and on the battlefield.  Finally we gathered in Big School where everyone was invited to hang their own thoughts and wishes on to a Tree of Peace.
